In the year 711, the Arabs troops from North Africa crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and begins his incursion into of the Iberian Peninsula, in a period of seven years, this new territory called Al-Andalus became a province dependent on the Umayyad Caliphate.
Abderraman I, founded the first Umayyad emirate of Cordoba in 756, making Cordoba its capital, became politically independent of the Caliphate, although it maintained its religious ties. According to legend, it was the most beautiful example of splendor of Al-Andalus, because in it is built a city called Medina Azahara, whose literal meaning is “the city that shines”, which has come down to us to this day.
