Description
The Caminito del Rey in Malaga, experience, live and feel nature outdoors from the heights.
An incredible experience on a suspended walkway over the Tajos de la Sierra Huma. Built in the early twentieth century, it is located in the Gaitanes Gorge offering a unique and intense experience and adventure.
Originally intended as a crossing for the workers of the hydroelectric plants and the canal watchmen, it was gradually improved by the engineer Benjumea, who replaced the wooden floor with concrete slabs with handrail and thus becoming a fundamental element for the daily life of the families of the workers who lived there.
Its name comes from King Alfonso XIII, who in 1921 crossed the path to preside over the inauguration of the reservoirs and since then it began to be called Caminito del Rey. An amazing example of human ability to overcome the barriers imposed by nature in an era of scarce technical resources and therefore has become in its own right one of the premium experiences to be performed internationally.
Enjoy an unparalleled adventure that will make your hair stand on end. An excursion with an expert local guide who will lead you through a platform located 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. You will contemplate the landscape and the amazing panorama around you and admire the incredible beauty of its views.
The walking tour starts at the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, which is the main water reserve of Malaga. You will get to know the Gaitanes Gorge and its history and discover numerous bridges between mountains and ideal places for hikers and nature lovers.
The Caminito stretches for approximately 7 km with at least 1 meter wide in some of its sections. At the end of the tour you can enjoy a delicious lunch at the foot of the gorge in a fantasy environment.
